Gene "Pee Wee" Wier

Gene "Pee Wee" Morris Wier, of El Campo, TX, passed away on February 20, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born in Houston at German Hospital to the late Olga Kocurek Wier and Eugene David Morris on May 5, 1939. Pee Wee married Betty on April 28,1962 and made their home in El Campo. They were married 58 years. After graduating from ECHS in 1957, Pee Wee enlisted in the army for three years. It was during peacetime so he boxed and played baseball. He returned to El Campo, married Betty and had Cherie and Kim. Peewee ruffed-necked and farmed. Later he owned El Campo Feed and Milling Company. He changed professions and went into the oil field where he was a long time salesman. His clients loved him and would ask for him personally. He retired in 2010. Pee Wee Betty and Cherie have been ricebird fans for over 50 years. Peewee loved his sports. They attended in and out of town games whether it be football baseball basketball softball etc. peewee would also help with the track meets. They were also members of El Campo booster club for many years. They attended and helped at the sports banquet and Project graduations. Pee Wee, Betty and Cherie were awarded El Campo Ricebird #1 fan many times. You would see them on the front page of the Leader-News, Victoria Advocate, Houston Chronicles and even on Channel 13. They were celebrities. Pee Wee loved his yard work. He always had a manicured yard and received yard of month three times. Pee Wee was an avid golfer and played all the time. He was well liked by everyone and would give you the shirt off his back to help in any kind of way. He had a ritual every morning going to get coffee for him and Cherie at L-Stop where he loved to visit with everyone. His special love was for my sister, Cherie. They were two peas in a pod. They were a special team. When you saw him or my parents you always saw Cherie. She was the love of his life. He had another special place in his heart for Kim and Stephen. He was the best husband and dad anyone could ask for. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 4 at Triska Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Hillje with the funeral Mass following at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post 251 will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Steven Goetsch, Chris Kocurek, Chris Howard, Henry "Scooter" Vaclavick, Craig Terrell and Gerald Foltyn. Honorary Pallbearers: Kim Denton, Cherie Wier, Stephen Denton, Hudson Bates and Tess Smith. Memorial donations in memory of Pee Wee may be made to the El Campo Booster Club or St. Philip School.
