Geraldine Rae Wuthrich
February 11, 1929 - April 24, 2022
Geraldine Rae Wuthrich was born February 11, 1929 in Pierce, Texas, to farmer and musician Walter Emil Wilbeck and musician Elsie Moebes Wilbeck. Gerry studied Art and Music at Wharton County Junior College and other local institutions. After college, she taught Kindergarten for Trinity Lutheran Church, sang for community choirs and other local productions, and performed at weddings. It was at one of these wedding performances where she met Edward Emil Wuthrich, and their storybook romance began. Gerry and Ed were married in 1958 and soon moved to Chalons, France where he was stationed while serving in the Army. There, their first daughter, Melissa was born. Being a military family, they moved often: Carol was born in Alabama, Grace was born in Texas, and Rachel was born in Virginia. When Edward retired from the military, the family moved to Pierce, Texas and built their home on Gerry’s father’s farm where they lived the rest of their lives. During all this time traveling, moving and being an amazing Army Wife and homemaker, Gerry continued to sing and develop a passion for art. To that end, she entered art shows wherever she lived and won numerous awards for her work. Many people around Wharton County and indeed across the Southern United States own Gerry originals. Her largest art projects were the life-sized Christmas and Easter scenes she painted for their church, Trinity Lutheran in El Campo, and then later remodeled for Christ Lutheran Church when the two fellowships merged. The Christmas scene was displayed for many years at each church and Gerry was even featured in the El Campo Leader News for her iconic work. As Christ was always the center of the family’s life, everywhere the couple lived, they became active members and leaders of their local church, developing rich friendships within each of the congregations. As leaders in the Faith, they were instrumental in helping grow church membership, build parish halls and create long-lasting fund-raisers. One example is the enduring Sausage Fest, still enjoyed annually by Christ Lutheran Church. Gerry continued to sing in church choirs throughout her life, enjoying many years with the CLC choir for which she and her family were active members. “Grammie” was famous for always having fresh-baked goodies under the glass dome on the countertop, and a fresh pot of coffee for anyone who came for an afternoon visit. Her amazing homemade sausage rolls, cinnamon rolls, and kolaches brightened the faces of all who came through her kitchen, especially her grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren fiercely and hosted an annual “Grammie’s Camp” for many summers with her eight grandkids, always welcoming any others who showed up. Never one to sit still, even in her early 80’s, she was often heard to say she was headed out to “help drive the old people in the family” around, taking them to doctor visits, hair appointments or church services. Geraldine is remembered with love as a kind, generous, warm-hearted woman of faith who served God, her family and her friends with all her heart. Geraldine is preceded in death by: her parents, Walter and Elsie Wilbeck, her husband, Edward Wuthrich, and her daughter, Grace Wuthrich. She is survived by her Daughters and sons-in-law: Melissa and Robert D Baker of Pierce, Carol and Kelly Teague of Bay City, Rachel and Tim Brown of Maypearl, and her grandchildren: Karsten and wife Allie Falke, Robert E Baker, Erin Teague, Elsa Jopling, Brantley Brown, William Teague, Laura Baker, and Ainsley Brown. Visitation will begin on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 5-7PM at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:30AM at Christ Lutheran Church.
